About the Vortex Model 02
The Vortex Model 02 is the furnace to buy when a 1 kg unit has become the bottleneck. A 3 kg crucible lets a workshop consolidate a morning's scrap into a single bar, or supply several counters from one melt, without splitting the work into three runs.
The difference that matters at this size is cooling. Back-to-back melting puts sustained load on an induction power supply, and the Vortex Model 02 is water cooled so it holds output through a full working session rather than backing off as it warms. That is what separates a furnace rated for a workshop from one rated for occasional use.
It requires a three-phase supply and a maintained water circuit, so treat installation as a planned job rather than an unboxing. Vortex handles siting, connection and first melt as part of commissioning.

Vortex Model 02 — questions
Do I need three-phase power for the Vortex Model 02?
Yes. The Vortex Model 02 requires a three-phase supply. Confirm your premises has one, or arrange the connection, before ordering — this is the most common cause of delayed commissioning. Tell us your local voltage and frequency and the unit is configured for it.
What does the water cooling involve?
An external water circuit carries heat away from the induction power supply so the furnace holds full output through continuous melting. It needs routine checking and topping up, which is covered during installation training.
Should I buy the 3 kg or two 1 kg furnaces?
If your melts are genuinely large, one 3 kg unit is faster and loses less metal than splitting the charge. If you mostly melt small amounts and occasionally melt large, two smaller furnaces give you redundancy and less wasted heat on part-full crucibles.
