The Vortex Model 05 is a bench laser welder built around the work a jewellery workshop actually turns away: a broken claw on a set ring, a snapped chain next to a pearl, porosity in a fresh casting, a sizing on a piece that cannot be heated as a whole.
A 200 W fibre source covers the full range of routine repair, but the specification that matters day to day is how far down it will go. Pulse width, frequency and spot size are set independently and saved as presets, so a jeweller moves between a fine, shallow weld near a heat-sensitive stone and a deeper structural join without re-learning the machine each time.
Fibre sources have no flashlamp to replace, which removes the main recurring maintenance cost of the older lamp-pumped machines. Running costs come down to argon shielding gas and eyewear. The unit ships with wavelength-rated protective eyewear and an interlocked working aperture.

Yes — that is the main reason to own one. The heat-affected zone is small and localised, so claws and settings can be repaired in place. Heat-sensitive stones still need a low, controlled setting, which is why fine adjustment at the bottom of the power range matters.
It does, but fine silver and high-purity gold reflect a large share of the beam and are harder to start a weld on than platinum or karat alloys. If silver is a large part of your work, ask us to demonstrate on silver before you order.
Argon shielding gas, and replacement eyewear if it is damaged. A fibre source has no flashlamp, so there is no equivalent to the periodic lamp replacement that lamp-pumped YAG welders require.
A jeweller with bench experience is usually productive on routine repairs within a day. Installation includes operator training on setting up presets for the metals and job types you handle.
200 W covers the great majority of jewellery repair. Higher power is worth it mainly if you consistently weld heavy sections. How finely a machine can be turned down matters more for jewellery than how high it goes.
