About the Diamond Milling Machine

The Diamond Milling Machine — also called a diamond cutting machine, or the Vortex diamond milling machine — cuts facets into a finished gold surface with a diamond-tipped tool, producing the bright, sharp-edged pattern that catches light on a chain or bangle. The finish comes from the cut itself rather than from polishing, so it holds an edge that a mop cannot reproduce.

Work is held on the table and indexed under the spindle, and the depth and spacing of each pass set the pattern. Rigidity is what decides the result: any play in the spindle or the table shows up as a facet that is not quite flat, and the difference is visible under a loupe long before it is visible to a customer.

It suits a manufacturing workshop finishing its own chain and bangle work in batches, not a repair bench.

Diamond Milling Machine — questions

Does it need three-phase power?

Yes. Confirm your premises has a three-phase supply, or arrange the connection, before ordering — this is the most common cause of delayed commissioning on a machine of this size.

How often does the tooling need replacing?

A diamond tip lasts a long time in gold, but the facet quality falls off gradually rather than failing outright. Watch the edge of the cut under a loupe: when the facet edge starts to look rounded rather than crisp, change the tip.

Can it work on finished, set pieces?

No. This is a manufacturing machine for stock and unset work held rigidly on the table. Cutting near a set stone belongs on a bench, by hand.
