About the Jewellery Welding Machine

The Jewellery Welding Machine — also written jewelry welding machine, or the Vortex jewellery welder — joins precious metal with a short, high-current pulse delivered through a fine electrode under argon. The weld is small and the surrounding metal stays cool, so a claw can be rebuilt or a chain link closed without unsetting a nearby stone or annealing the piece.

Power is set as a percentage and pulse length in milliseconds, and both are stored per programme — the front panel carries presets for gold, cobalt-chrome, hybrid alloys, titanium and orthodontic work. Saving a setting per job type is what makes a repair repeatable rather than a matter of judgement each time.

It suits a repair bench that handles findings, chain, claw work and spectacle or dental frames. It is a spot welder, not a laser: it excels at tacking and building up small areas, and a seam weld along a long joint is slower work than on a fibre laser.

Jewellery Welding Machine — questions

Can I weld next to a set stone?

In most cases yes, which is the main reason to own one. The pulse is short enough that heat does not travel far from the weld. Treat heat-sensitive stones with the usual caution — emerald, opal and anything fracture-filled deserve a heat sink or unsetting.

Do I need argon?

For clean welds on gold and titanium, yes. Without shielding gas the weld picks up oxygen and goes dull and brittle. The regulator and filter are supplied; the cylinder is bought locally.

How is this different from a laser welder?

A pulse-arc welder puts energy through a physical electrode touching the work; a fibre laser does it with a beam through a microscope. Arc welding is far cheaper and very good at tacking and building up small areas. A laser gives a finer, more controllable weld and is faster along a long seam.
